Join MDA alongside the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) for a webinar and panel discussion about TRAIL, MDA’s Training AI Laboratory.
The webinar will provide an introduction to the Lunar Gateway program, an overview of Gateway robotics and AI and will launch a new dataset for AI practitioners. Participants will also hear from representatives from NRC, who will highlight the importance of AI in Canada, and from the Amii team, discussing the building of Canada’s AI ecosystem.
Data collected by MDA’s TRAIL prepares AI researchers to engage on challenges related to the topic of collision avoidance. This webinar will cover both the strategic importance of employing such datasets, as well as the technical details of its creation.

Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy Architect for Canadarm3, MDA
Dr. Chris Langley is a Staff Engineer in the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Department at MDA Brampton. He has 16 years of experience in developing autonomy-enabling algorithms for Lunar and Martian rovers and rendezvousing spacecraft. More recently he has worked on autonomous planning and execution tools for robotic manipulator operations. He is currently the autonomy and artificial intelligence lead on the Canadarm3 architecture team.
Vision System Architect for Canadarm3, MDA
Dr. Cameron Dickinson has worked in optics for over 20 years, most recently as the technical lead for both replacement cameras on Canadarm2 and the OSIRIS REx Laser Altimeter. Most recently, he has been coordinating MDA efforts with external Artificial Intelligence partners, and is architecting the vision systems on Canadarm3.
Student Intern and Robot Operator, MDA
Erin Richardson, Mission Systems Intern at MDA, studies aerospace engineering at the University of Toronto and has had the opportunity to work on Canadian space robotics through TRAIL. Erin is excited to be involved with Canada’s contribution to the Lunar Gateway, and hopes to visit the Moon herself one day!
Director, Investment & Partnerships, Amii
Nella Brodett is the Director of Investment & Partnerships at Amii. After earning her Bachelor of Commerce from Ryerson University, Nella began her career in the Toronto tech sector where she gained a breadth of cross-sector experience working with startups, the provincial government, health technology commercialization and AI. Nella enjoys developing lasting relationships creating meaningful change to society's most pressing challenges.
Avionics and Software Lead for Canadarm3, CSA
Mr. Gaudreau cumulates more than 25 years of experience in industry and government as a software and a systems engineer. He joined CSA in 2002, where he was involved with the Canadarm 2 Simulator, James Webb Space Telescope Fine Guiding Sensor, and Osiris-Rex Lidar Altimeter. He holds a degree in Engineering Physics and a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Université Laval. His current position is to oversee the avionics and software for Canadarm3.
Acting Director R&D, NRC Digital Technologies Research Center
Louis Borgeat is the acting Director of R&D at the Digital Technologies Research Center of the National Research Council of Canada. He joined NRC in 2001 as a research officer, where his research focused on 2D/3D imaging systems and real-time computer vision/graphics, with a specific interest on issues related to very large datasets in manufacturing, aerospace, security and neuroscience. He has then led the Computer Vision and Graphics team at NRC, focusing on applied research with clients and academic partners along the entire 3D imaging pipeline. The Digital Technologies Research Center collaborates with industry, academia and government, bringing expertise in many application domains of AI and analytics.
