AI Seminar Series 2021: Kamalika Chaudhuri - New Case Studies in Inferential and Differential Privacy

The AI Seminar is a weekly meeting at the University of Alberta where researchers interested in artificial intelligence (AI) can share their research. Presenters include both local speakers from the University of Alberta and visitors from other institutions. Topics can be related in any way to artificial intelligence, from foundational theoretical work to innovative applications of AI techniques to new fields and problems.

On March 12, Kamalika Chaudhuri, Assistant Professor at the Computing Science & Engineering Department at the University of California San Diego, presented “New Case Studies in Inferential and Differential Privacy.”

In this talk, Chaudhuri presents case studies in two frameworks. The first looks at a form of inferential privacy that allows more fine-grained control in a local setting than the individual level. The second looks at privacy against adversaries who have bounded learning capacity, and has ties to the theory of generative adversarial networks (GANs).
