Job Purpose and Accountabilities

Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Analyst serves as a key member of the Finance and Admin Team and works closely with them to ensure accurate financial records, maintain internal controls and to identify and drive process and productivity improvements.

The Financial Analyst assists with completing Amii’s full cycle accounting and financial transactions. The Financial Analyst ensures that the books and accounting records are kept in accordance with GAAP and that transactions are in compliance with Amii financial policies & procedures and are documented and supported. The Financial Analyst completes projects and provides assistance whenever necessary. Some of the main responsibilities of the Financial Analyst are as follows:

  • Assists Controller in Fund accounting and reporting to external stakeholders and granting agencies
  • Reconciles various accounts and identifies errors and anomalies; finds sources of errors and recommends action to resolve
  • Monthly accrual adjustments (payroll, professional fees, interest revenue, prepaid adjustment)
  • Monthly capital asset tracker updates and amortization entry
  • Monthly deferred revenue adjustment to track remaining revenue in various contracts and funds
  • Monthly invoicing to customers
  • Quarterly filing of GST returns
  • Monthly accounts receivable review and follow-up with customers who have aging unpaid balances
  • Records Management - all records such as contracts, agreements, statements of work and NDA’s are accurately file; maintains and improves filing systems
  • Assists Controller with the annual audit and preparing the year-end working papers and schedules as required
  • Communicates with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely responses and resolutions to issues
  • Ensures financial transactions comply with Amii policies & procedures
  • Maintains internal controls - communicates with Controller to review and assess internal control issues and makes recommendations for improvements
  • Maintains accurate financial records
  • Maintains confidentiality with respect to personal, corporate, and financial information
  • Completes ad hoc reporting and financial requests, and projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Four (4) year degree required in the field of Accounting or Finance or Business Administration and/or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience; experience in a not for profit environment will be an asset
  • Highly proficient in MS Office environment, excellent data analysis skills and abilities (must be advanced expert in MS Excel, including knowledge of advanced tools, pivot tables, formulas, and conditional formatting)
  • Experience with Quickbooks Desktop is an asset
  • Understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), fund accounting
  • Experience & understanding of Not For Profit Accounting is an asset
  • Experience performing the payroll function and use of payroll software is an asset
  • Thorough working knowledge of internal controls and internal control concepts
