“Amii is thrilled to add a Machine Learning Engineer to our Industry Team! As we drive towards our goal of making AI and ML a key competitive driver for companies in Alberta, we want to help the companies we work with realize the true business impact of these technologies. This role will be critical to help us lead this initiative and represents a fantastic opportunity for someone to help shape how a cutting-edge AI institute does this.
I’m looking for an ambitious, creative, and pragmatic candidate, who is eager to apply their industry experience in order to help shape Amii’s client engagements. You’re likely my ideal candidate if you:
AI holds incredible potential to improve our lives. If you’re interested in being part of the organization that unlocks this opportunity in Alberta, I would love to hear from you.”
- David Chan, Product Lead, Industry
The Machine Learning Engineer (MLE) serves as a key member of the Industry Team and an active participant in Amii achieving its vision of making AI/ML key drivers for economic success for companies in Alberta.
The Machine Learning Engineer uses their applied industry experience in deployment and operationalization of ML solutions in production environments to direct the research and development efforts of Amii Industry Partners and Clients. They bridge the gap between business opportunities and applied ML methods to provide direction and oversight on technical projects. They advise clients along the entire machine learning journey from scoping to model deployment and productionization. This includes making informed decisions about what the data requirements are, what modelling techniques should be tested, how solutions should be deployed and monitored, and how success will be evaluated.
In addition to providing guidance to industry partners, the MLE will support fundamental research through partnerships with Amii Fellows and their students, working with one of the best ML departments in the world.
The MLE empowers Amii clients with the knowledge and skills they need to advance on the AI Adoption Spectrum by specializing in ML deployment expertise, which will complement Amii’s expertise in ML modelling and research. They support Amii's internal teams as subject matter experts based on their MLOps experience.
The role focuses on achieving excellence in three main accountabilities:
One of Canada’s three main institutes for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, our world-renowned researchers drive fundamental and applied research at the University of Alberta (and other academic institutions), training some of the world’s top scientific talent. Our cross-functional teams work collaboratively with Alberta-based businesses and organizations to build AI capacity and translate scientific advancement into industry adoption and economic impact.
If this sounds like the opportunity you've been waiting for, please don’t wait for the closing date to apply -- we’re excited to add a new member to the Amii team for this role, and the posting may come down sooner than the closing date!
When sending your application, please send your resume and cover letter indicating why you think you'd be a fit for Amii by January 7 through the Indeed listing. In your cover letter, please include one professional accomplishment you are most proud of and why.
Amii is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating a diverse, inclusive and excellent workforce.
