Amii is thrilled to add a Machine Learning Scientist to our Team! We work directly with clients who are eager to implement machine learning into their businesses and are looking for an individual that can provide the scientific guidance and excellence needed to make it happen.
This is an incredible opportunity to have a front-row seat to see technology adoption in action and uncover the potential that AI holds. Our clients will entrust you with the guidance and direction of their innovative projects, and we are looking for someone who will share their level of ambition and dedication.
We're looking for a driven candidate who will lead client engagements and has expertise in applying machine learning to topics in biology. You’re likely our ideal candidate if you:
You will work alongside a team of accomplished individuals who are passionate about driving AI adoption forward. Be a part of a hard-working team that values culture and likes to have fun. If you’re interested in being part of the organization that unlocks this opportunity in Alberta, we would love to hear from you.
One of Canada’s three main institutes for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, our world-renowned researchers drive fundamental and applied research at the University of Alberta (and other academic institutions), training some of the world’s top scientific talent. Our cross-functional teams work collaboratively with Alberta-based businesses and organizations to build AI capacity and translate scientific advancement into industry adoption and economic impact.
The Machine Learning Scientist serves as a key member of the Apprentice Team and an active participant in maintaining Amii's reputation for scientific excellence and providing insight into their area of expertise.
The Machine Learning Scientist (MLS) uses their scientific knowledge and applied research experience to direct the research and development efforts of Amii Industry Partners and Clients. They bridge the gap between business opportunities and fundamental ML techniques, providing scientific oversight on technical projects. They advise clients on the scoping and definition of machine learning projects and coach companies through the iterative stages of the Machine Learning Process Lifecycle (MLPL). This includes making informed decisions about what the data requirements are, what modelling techniques should be tested, what technical resources need to be onboarded when more background research is required, and how success will be evaluated.
The MLS is also responsible for providing leadership and mentorship to junior team members. The Apprentice Team sources unique talent to work on our industry partner’s projects, and the MLS is responsible for supporting the talent throughout the project delivery.
In addition to providing guidance to industry partners and talent, the MLS will support fundamental research through partnerships with Amii Fellows and their students, working with one of the best ML departments in the world.
Scientists empower Amii clients with the knowledge and skills they need to advance on the AI Adoption Spectrum by applying their unique combination of research and industry experience. They support Amii's internal teams as subject matter experts based on their technical specialties and applied Machine Learning experience.
The role focuses on achieving excellence in three main accountabilities:
