Hi there,
It’s been a summer of growth here at Amii, driven by an expanding slate of ambitious projects, including a $13.9M partnership to advance AI within the aerospace industry.
Initiatives like this are pushing us to break ground on academic frontiers and apply machine learning to transform vital sectors from healthcare to the sciences.
To power our innovative work, we've strategically grown our team and are thrilled to welcome seven new interdisciplinary researchers. This brings our total research capacity of Amii Fellows and Canadian CIFAR AI Chairs to 57.
Meet the newest minds at Amii:
Bahareh Tolooshams - an expert in AI-driven inverse problem solving, tackling challenges in science and engineering;
Carrie Demmans Epp - who uses human-centred learning technologies to create more effective and accessible learning experiences;
Quinn Lee - his research focuses on understanding how the brain organizes and represents space, memory, and experience;
J. Terence Blaskovits - who uses machine learning in finding new molecules and materials for applications in energy, optics;
Tian Tian - working on open-source tools to efficiently explore material science for renewable energy applications;
Blair Attard-Frost - her work applies a trans feminist lens to address challenges to participation and justice in artificial intelligence;
and Russell Dinnage - who is building foundational models in organismal biology to create AI systems that learn from and help us understand living systems.
I’m looking forward to them joining our team of world-renowned researchers and contributing to our robust AI ecosystem.
And you can dive into their fascinating research first-hand at Upper Bound 2026 next May, where they, alongside our other researchers, will share how AI is redefining what's possible.
Right now, for members of the Amii community like you, Upper Bound 2026 passes are 50% off — just $225. However, this offer is only available until August 31, so grab your tickets now.
See you soon,
