Code of Conduct

We are dedicated to providing a safe, harassment-free environment for all events, training courses and shared communications channels associated therein.

We are committed to providing a diverse, respectful and safe environment that is free from bullying, discrimination, harassment, intimidation, violence or threats thereof. Furthermore, we are dedicated to protecting the safety, integrity, and security of our research ecosystem.

We invite you to make this space, physical or virtual, a welcoming and respectful place for all participants, regardless of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, national origin, ethnicity, or religion.

We expect all participants — attendees, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, organizers and volunteers — to treat others with respect and abide by the following Code of Conduct. This includes social events at off-site locations, online activities and social media before, during and after the event itself.

Unacceptable Behaviours

These behaviours, in any form, will not be tolerated at any time:

  • Harassment*

  • Intimidation

  • Abuse

  • Discrimination

  • Use of sexualized language and images. This includes presentations, slides, and speaker content.

  • Possession and/or use of illegal substances

  • Possession of an item that can be used as a weapon causing harm to others

  • Non-disclosure of Prohibited Affiliations: Active participation in research or resource-allocated projects while holding undisclosed affiliations, appointments, employment, or receiving funding/in-kind support from any entity listed on the Government of Canada’s Named Research Organizations (NRO) List.

*Our definition of harassment includes:

  • Unwelcome or hostile behaviour, including verbal or written comments that intimidate, create discomfort or interfere with a person’s participation in the event

  • Unwelcome physical contact

  • Unwelcome sexual attention

Consequences of Unacceptable Behaviour

Participants asked to stop unacceptable behaviour are expected to comply immediately. Participants who violate the Code of Conduct may be expelled from the event and related activities without a refund and/or banned from future events at the organizers’ discretion.

If You Experience or Witness Unacceptable Behaviour

We need your help to keep the community safe, accountable and responsible. If you experience or witness any forms of unacceptable behaviour, please bring your concerns to an Amii staff person’s immediate attention or contact hello@amii.ca directly.

Expected Behaviours

Research Security & Institutional Integrity

Just as we safeguard the physical and psychological safety of our community, we are committed to safeguarding our collective research. In alignment with federal research security guidelines, all active researchers, fellows, and program participants are expected to maintain full transparency regarding institutional ties. By participating in Amii activities, you attest that you do not hold an active affiliation (including employment, appointments, or active research collaboration) with, nor receive funding or in-kind support from, any organization listed on the Government of Canada’s Named Research Organizations (NRO) List.

Thank you for your help in keeping Amii and the broader community safe, welcoming and respectful for all.
