Announcing:
AI Workforce Readiness powered by Amii
Amii has received a $5 million grant from Google.org to launch AI Workforce Readiness—a national initiative aimed at closing Canada’s AI skills gap and preparing the next generation for a changing economy.
The announcement was made today at Upper Bound, a global AI conference presented by Amii.

Bringing AI Literacy to Post-Secondaries Across Canada
Artificial intelligence is reshaping the workplace. And, while Canada leads in AI research, our workforce isn’t yet ready to meet the moment.
A 2024 report from Public First projects a $27 billion productivity boost to Alberta’s economy alone through broader AI adoption. But unlocking that opportunity requires people—not just technology—who are prepared to use AI responsibly and effectively.
That’s where AI Workforce Readiness comes in:
25 post-secondary institutions from across Canada will collaborate in a new consortium led by Amii.
The initiative will embed AI literacy across existing courses and disciplines—from business to health to the trades.
It will reach 125,000 students, equipping them with foundational AI knowledge to apply in any field.

Scaling that Works
Amii is uniquely positioned to lead this initiative, building on years of experience delivering AI education across Canada.
We’ve already:
Reached more than 50,000 high school students through national K–12 AI literacy programming
Developed the AI Everywhere course at the University of Alberta, delivered across all faculties
Equipped educators with open, accessible curriculum tools that are already being used in classrooms across the country
This next step—bringing AI literacy to 125,000 post-secondary students—builds on a strong foundation and a national network that’s ready to scale.

We’re proud to support Amii’s initiative that will not only benefit 125,000 students directly but will also help the organizations that hire them put AI to work.

A National Investment in Canada’s AI Future
This initiative marks a national shift toward making AI literacy a core skill for Canadian students—one that matches the pace of change and meets the needs of every sector.
It’s not just about adapting to the future.
It’s about helping shape it.
This investment by Google.org is a critical step toward ensuring Canada’s talent is ready, not just to keep pace with the changing economy, but to lead it.

Canada has an incredible opportunity to translate decades of AI research excellence into fundamental AI literacy skills for a generation of post-secondary students because of the generous support of Google.org.
