Elena Popovici is a Machine Learning Scientist with Amii's Advanced Technology team. She has a PhD in Computer Science from George Mason University, where she focused on coevolutionary optimization and complex systems. She has a strong publication record (including awards) and also brings many years of industry experience using data and ML to solve complex problems like designing damage-resilient piping networks on Navy ships, simulating portfolio planning for a large pharma company, and creating text-visualization tech that was co-patented and spun off into a startup — to name just a few.

Elena was the Head of Data Science and CTO at Awesense, leading a team to develop data analytics platforms for decarbonizing electricity grids, a Sr. Data Scientist at Neurio Technologies applying ML to forecast home electricity demand and solar generation and to optimize home batteries, and a technical EiR with the Foresight clean tech accelerator, advising companies on their technical roadmaps.

Elena is passionate about using her skills to help with clean tech and to address environmental and social issues.
