Building robust, efficient, and ethical AI frameworks to transform the future of software engineering

Zhou Yang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta and an Amii Fellow. He completed his Ph.D. at Singapore Management University in December 2024, following an M.Sc. in Software System Engineering from University College London. He was a senior research engineer at the Centre for Research on Intelligent Software Engineering. His pioneering work on code model security, privacy, and efficiency has been recognized with multiple prestigious awards, including the 2024 IEEE Computer Society Best Paper Award, ACM Distinguished Paper Award at ISSTA 2024, ACSAC Honorable Mention Award, and first place in the ACM SRC at ICSE 2024.

He serves on program and organizing committees for major conferences in software engineering, collaborates with international researchers across multiple continents, and actively builds his research group focused on large language models for code, AI security and privacy, and sustainable AI systems.
