When health systems face severe staffing shortages, administrative paperwork shouldn't delay getting clinicians onto the frontlines.
To streamline candidate placement, Hines Health Services, a Fort McMurray-based health services staffing provider, partnered with Amii to integrate custom AI capabilities into its recruitment platform, HARP. By reducing candidate profile preparation from hours down to seconds, the platform eliminates recruitment bottlenecks and gives recruiters time back to focus on high-value candidate engagement.
Challenge
Healthcare staffing requires meticulous validation—from verifying credentials to assessing deployment readiness. Processing up to 100 applications a week, Hines Health Services (HHS) faced a persistent bottleneck with candidate data spread across unstructured resumes, license files, and recruiter notes. Traditional keyword filters missed strong candidates, while manual profile creation consumed hours that recruiters could have spent engaging qualified professionals.
Approach
Hines Health Services brought its healthcare recruitment expertise and operational workflows to partner with Amii in building and testing new AI capabilities within HARP.
Led by an Amii ML Resident and HHS experts, the team integrated vision-language models directly into the platform. This visual AI capability allows HARP to dynamically scan and extract data from diverse document types, including multi-page resumes, medical licenses, professional certificates, and handwritten or typed interview notes.
Two features deployed on HARP, the Profile Extractor and Resume Generator, process the unstructured visual data and populate fields for candidate profiles. Using context-aware semantic matching, HARP acts as an intelligent assistant, reading between the lines to align candidate experience with role requirements, identifying relevant skills that traditional keyword filters may miss. Additionally, the platform flags expiring certifications so candidates can proactively renew them. These capabilities help surface high-potential candidates for recruiter review while keeping final hiring decisions firmly in human hands.
I envisioned HARP helping our recruiters identify candidates within that pool whose experience and credentials align with a client’s specific needs, without manually reviewing every profile. Amii helped us develop and test AI capabilities that support that vision and reduce the time spent preparing candidate profiles. That gives our recruiters more time to engage with candidates, assess their readiness and respond when clients need healthcare professionals.

Impact
During testing across 1,400+ candidate-role pairs, HARP’s AI-supported workflows reduced resume evaluations to under 30 seconds and profile generation to 31 seconds. Its specialized extraction model accurately captured critical credential timelines and renewal dates, achieving a 90% agreement rate with expert HHS recruiter decisions.
By handling repetitive file processing, the HARP platform accelerates recruitment and frees HHS staff to focus on direct candidate engagement—expanding care access for communities by placing qualified health professionals into frontline roles faster.
