Day 1
Federal Funding Announcement for AI Projects
Announced today at Upper Bound 2026: the federal government announced $6.8M in funding through Prairies Can and the Regional Artificial Intelligence to support five Alberta-based organizations in innovating and commercializing AI projects.
Enerva CEO on AI's role in energy regulation

Amii and Government of Alberta launch Health Innovation Lab
Announced on Wednesday at Upper Bound: Amii is launching the Health Innovation Lab, a $10M initiative in partnership with the Government of Alberta designed to accelerate the development and adoption of AI-driven healthcare. Over the next three years, Amii will lead the Lab in bridging the gap between world-class AI research and clinical applications to improve health outcomes for Albertans.
Amii Partners with Alberta Government to Bring AI Literacy to K-12 Classrooms
As announced at Upper Bound 2026, Amii is partnering with the Alberta government on a three-year partnership to expand and deliver specialized AI learning kits for classrooms across the province. The $2.7 million initiative will equip educators with the resources needed to prepare a new generation to lead in the global AI economy.
Day 3
Renewed funding announced for Canada CIFAR AI research chairs
Evan Solomon, Canada's Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, took the stage at Upper Bound 2026 announce the appointment and renewal of 42 Canada CIFAR AI Chairs, backed by a $24M investment.
With this announcement, the Canada CIFAR AI Chairs program now supports 143 Chairs at universities nationwide, all affiliated with the country’s three national AI institutes: Amii, Mila, and the Vector Institute. Thanks to the successful completion of its AI+X cluster hire, Amii is now home to 32 of these Chairs. Learn more here.
Amii Launches Channel Partnership with University of Alberta to Scale Workforce-Ready AI Literacy
Announced at Upper Bound, Amii officially launched its first institutional channel partnership, teaming up with the University of Alberta to bring the AI Literacy for Everyone platform directly to working professionals through U of A Continuing Education.
Calgary-based startup Ultimarii pairs AI with infrastructure expertise
Learn more about Ultimarii, a startup using AI to help its clients navigate complex regulatory frameworks. The company’s software analyzes massive volumes of regulatory and technical documentation tied to infrastructure projects. They've been working with Amii over the past year to develop custom AI solutions –and now they're showcasing it at Upper Bound.
