April 2022 AI Meetup Recap: AI & Video Games

Amii’s Virtual AI Meetup is a monthly event where AI researchers, professionals and enthusiasts gather to learn and chat about AI-related topics.

The April 26, 2022 edition of the Meetup was all about AI and video games.

Hosted by Amii's Britt Ayotte (Marketing & Communications Associate), the event featured:

• Levi Lelis (Fellow & Canada CIFAR AI Chair at Amii) on how AI-generated curriculums can teach human learners how to solve different types of problems using a learning-by-doing approach. He presented the user study with puzzles from the game 'The Witness'.
• Devon Sigurdson (Associate Technical Director at Bioware) on what goes into creating believable video game characters. He provided a high-level overview of solutions used in modern game AI and how they work together, including sensory systems, environmental queries, decision making, movement and animation.
