On December 17, 2020, participants gathered digitally to watch and participate in the final AI Meetup of 2020. The event featured:
LRT Operations and Maintenance with the City of Edmonton
There is much more to the LRT than you think! Did you know the distance travelled by every train on the LRT has to be recorded to ensure the trains are as safe as possible for passengers? Just like your car, every train is equipped with an odometer. Traditionally, the distance travelled is collected by a person walking underneath the train to manually obtain the odometer reading. This is a labour intensive, inefficient process that is prone to accidents. Craig and Rajiur from the City of Edmonton will demonstrate how advanced technology automated bots have replaced this and many more labour-intensive tasks within the organization. They will provide insight on how the system was designed and the difficulties and challenges that were overcome during the roll-out process.

Title: AI in Space - New Opportunities and Challenges
There are many challenges unique to space applications. With an ever increasing number of satellites in orbit, as well as more and more debris flying around, there is an urgent need to develop technologies for more distributed and autonomous control and scheduling of satellites in addition to the required perception tools that will enable these control algorithms. In this talk, Payam will highlight some of these challenges and opportunities and share results of their recent work on detection and classification of "Resident Space Objects" (RSO) and real-time synthesis of imagery.
