The AI Seminar is a weekly meeting at the University of Alberta where researchers interested in artificial intelligence (AI) can share their research. Presenters include both local speakers from the University of Alberta and visitors from other institutions. Topics can be related in any way to artificial intelligence, from foundational theoretical work to innovative applications of AI techniques to new fields and problems.
On October 22, Jacob Jaremko — Amii Fellow, Canada CIFAR AI Chair and co-founder of MEDO.ai — presented “ Starting Up from Academia” at the AI Seminar.
MEDO.ai is one of Edmonton's many startup success stories, offering an AI platform that makes obtaining and interpreting ultrasound images faster, more reliable and accessible to all. Many aren’t aware of the academic origins of the technology – let alone how Medo transitioned from academic advancement into a commercial success. Jaremko, discusses the company's origins and the steps the team took to launch what has grown into a key member of the Edmonton startup community.
