Alberta Budget 2022
The budget commits “$73 million over three years for the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy. This strategy envisions Alberta becoming an internationally recognized technology and innovation hub making Alberta a leader in areas such as artificial intelligence and quantum science.”
CEO Cam Linke says this investment will help accelerate the already-exemplary work being done in Alberta.
“Alberta is a leader in AI thanks to long-term investments by the Government of Alberta, spanning back 20 years,” says Linke.” With this renewed support, we are excited to further our work advancing the science of AI, nurturing the growth of one of the world’s best talent pipelines, and guiding businesses as they grow their in-house AI capabilities. We look forward to continuing to leverage our world-leading expertise in AI for the benefit of all – here in Alberta and beyond.”

This investment will augment federal supports through the recently-announced renewal of the Pan-Canadian AI Strategy. Originally launched in 2017 as the world’s first national AI program, the strategy brought Canada’s AI excellence to the world stage and established the country as a world-leading destination for companies who want to invest in their AI capabilities.
In bringing together these two investments, Amii will continue to catalyze growth in Canada’s AI ecosystem by continuing to advance world-leading research, nurture top talent and transform businesses through AI.
